It is considered a main station on the pilgrims’ caravan route, rising about 760 meters above sea level. It was known in the past as Mayfa’a. Among the most important monuments that it included:
A church complex containing several churches decorated with mosaic floors.
The hermit's tower.
the Roman camp (fortress).
many Islamic, Umayyad and Ottoman monuments.
In 2004 it was inscribed on the World Heritage List due to its important features that reflect the religious, economic, political and military dimensions.
